Dive into a whimsical journey through the rugged charm and colorful history of Newfoundland, where every page turns a tale more delightful than the last. From the daring ice-trek of a fearless grandmother to the poetic swan song of a sharp-witted nonagenarian, this collection brims with heart and humor. Discover islands enchanted, tragedies with a twist, fishing exploits that defy belief, and the rollicking antics of a community where even an artificial leg gets its moment in the spotlight. With midwives performing miracles and music floating across the sea, these vignettes capture the spirit of a place where the extraordinary is just part of the everyday. Join us in Lushes Bight, where the sun rises over homes by the sea, and every story is a testament to resilience, laughter, and the unbreakable bonds of family.

Hi Fred ...thanks for dropping off those books for Dad. Your visit lifted his spirit as will your stories. Dad is going through quite a life transition and your book will help take his mind off all those things.

Come here til I tells ya... Fred, I cannot begin to tell you how this book resonates in my soul - I am transported back to my youth to that beautiful Island, my most perfect place to visit with my grandparents every summer, a free-range child exploring every rock and cranny on the point beneath the Church, reaching for bluebells which always seemed to be just out of my grasp!

I cannot tell you how thankful I am for your book. So far (and I am halfway through only because I have not had time to read it all yet) I have laughed and cried both of which are my own indicators of a really good read! So much of what your have documented hits home in a wonderfully, nostalgic manner. My own parents stayed and tended the light on South Head (Southern Head) the first winter they were married so it was their honeymoon site.

They were married in late September 1926. I simply loved hearing them tell about that winter. My mom, who lived to be 95, said it was the very best time of her life. I admire what you are doing - documenting those periods of time that will be forever lost without people like you. You must know that I like writing very much and regret that my time never seems to be my own to pursue just that. With the sadness in your own life, I feel sure that these periods of reminiscence are healing as well as providing you with a new purpose. En avant, Fred.
